Further Attack On Margins Decision

(New Zealand Press Association? WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. Railwaymen would be completely dissatisfied with the decision of the Arbitration Court to take no action over the Federation of Labour claim for margins for skill, said the general secretary of the A.S.R.S. (Sir N. A. Collins), this afternoon.

“The decision as quoted by Judge A P. Blair only repeats the same views which he expressed to a similar claim by the AS.R.S. earlier this year to the Railways Tribunal of which the judge is chairman.” Mr Collins said the A.S.R.S claim'earlier this year to its tribunal was taken precisely because the procedure now proposed by the Arbitration Court, namely negotiation and conciliation, had failed. “The action of the Court in refusing to accept its responsibilities to arbitrate can only lead to a further deterioration in the workers’ confidence in and acceptance of arbitration.

“As negotiation and conciliation have also failed it appears the court is leaving only one course open to the workers to gain what the court itself agrees is a just and proper claim—an increase in margins for skill.” said Mr Collins.
