Choice Of Aircraft
Sir,—One gets a chuckle from the vehement letters of some of your readers who seem scandalised at N.A.C.’s advisory board recommending the purchase of American aircraft, and it is to be hoped that you will just cut this correspondence off in its prime. Some of them, however, are move indignant than accurate. “Wing Span’s” is a case in point. He seems to be of the impression the DC3’s are powered by British engines—probably he would not have enjoyed those trips which he mentions half as much if he had realised he was staggering through the air with P. and W.'s or Cyclones for motive power. 8.0.A.C.’s Boeings constitute a mere hand ful powered by Rolls-Royce compared with the hundreds which get along very nicely, thank you. with P. and W power plants: Finally, the “Jenny” was a basic trainer, not a combat aircraft, so it would hardly “cross the line," would it?—Yours, etc., AMUSED.
