RICE BOWL APPEAL

Great Need This Year

The Save the Children Fund would have to aim at the highes’ possible result in its rice bowl appeal this year, as the need was at its greatest, said the president of the North Canterbury branch of the fund (Miss M. G. Havelaar), at the monthly meeting yesterday. Miss Havelaar thanked Mrs M. W. Simes for organising two stalls which raised £656 5s 3d to buy rice for Korean children, and also thanked the Mobil Oil Company for £l5 which was the proceeds from petrol sales during the opening week of a new business premises in Armagh street.

Mrs A. Deans said the fund was very grateful for used clothing it had received, but unfortunately some of it needed washing and mending, and so could not be put to immediate use.
