PENSIONER COTTAGES

Official Opening

Next Month

The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) will officially open the Paparua County Council’s new block of 10 cottages for pensioners at Sockburn on November 8. Final arrangements were discussed by the council at its meeting on Monday evening. When the County Clerk (Mr A. Kelly) said the council should fix a date for the opening of the new Sockburn swimming pool to allow ample time for an invitation to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath), the engineer (Mr A. Dy/irberg) said he would not guarantee that the pool could be finished by December 4.

To a suggestion that the baths could be opened without its being finished, Cr C. W. A. Kyle commented: “Nothing is worse than taking the first plunge without water in the pool.” The date and the invitation were left to the reserves committee.
