Research being done for theses by three honours studI ents was described- to the jCanterbury branch of the ; New Zealand Geographical I Society at its final meeting i for the year. Mr B. Rains outlined his study of recent glaciation in the High Peak valley, seven miles away from the Rakaia gorge. He illustrated his talk with slides. Mr H. Isdale's research has involved many hours’ travelling on slow goods trains be--1 tween Christchurch and Picton for his study of the development and functional changes on the line. The introduction of the rail ferry service had had important consequences for the line, he said.
Mr R. Merriman is studying the movement of offices away from the centre to the fringe of the city. He said that location of offices since 1955 had been increasingly further from the centre, and this had had many consequences for business in the city.
