LONG TRIP TO ORARI
Sydney Owner Of Blue Chip
One owner made a round trip of nearly 3000 miles in the hopes of seeing the horse in which he had a half-share win his first race at Orari on Saturday. He was Dr. J. M. Orr. of Sydney, who races Blue Chip in partner ship with Mr C. W. Wise, also of Sydney.
Blue Chip, a handsome brown colt which was bought for his owners by his Riccarton trainer. J. S. Shaw, for 900 guineas at the last yearling sales, tried hard to justify his favouritism for the Nightmarch Stakes although he was feeling the hard ground.
He ran around the leader. Resolute, with ease on the home turn but lost ground when he took a wide course at the straight entrance.
He made a renewed bid wide out on the track inside the furlong but it came too late to enable him to peg back Hadlow and Resolute.
Dr. Orr, who arrived in Christ church on Friday evening and returned home by air yesterday, had the satisfaction of seeing his trainer saddle Riccartons lone winner at the meeting.
The Shaw-trained Count de Seine capped off some solid place form with a well deserved win in the Temuka Stakes. Messrs C. Pateman and N. Simpson’s Comte de Grasse gelding joined the pacemaker, Symbolist, on the home turn and ran it out best to win by a head.
