Estimates Of Gas

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 17. Estimates of the useful energy available to consumers from the Kapuni natural gas field were based entirely on detailed investigations carried out by overseas consultants retained by the Government, the secretary of the Gas Association (Mr M. Kennedy) said today. The general manager of Shell-8.P.-Todd Oil Service (Mr D. S. Watt) has disputed the association’s claim that three times as much total useful energy would be available to consumers if the gas was used as gas rather than if it was used to generate electricity. Mr Kennedy said the Government retained consultants so as to obtain an independent opinion on issues like this which were likely to be disputed.
