STAFF LOST FROM GAOL
(N.Z. Press Association). AUCKLAND, Oct. 17. Loss of staff from Auckland Prison and a shortage of new recruits could, if continued, affect security at the gaol, Auckland Prison officers said yesterday. Spokesmen for the officers said that 18 officers had resigned from the staff in the last year. Of these, six were from a group of eight officers who had joined the staff in that time.
They said the strain of working long hours, sometimes six and seven days a week, was telling on the staff’s health and morale.
