Wanganui Study (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON,, Oct. 17. Ministry of Works engineers have spent about half a million pounds investigating the possibility of building a hydro-electric power station on the Wanganui river. The work, which was started in 1959, would not be finished before June, 1966, the Ministry’s power division chief engineer, Mr R. F. D. Ritchie, said tonight. Even at that stage no final decision could be made until the hydro-electric power costs had been compared with the cost of steam and atomic power, he said. The results of the investigations will be referred to the Power Planning Committee for consideration.
