Superannuitants
Sir, —Superannuitants and many other old people who have been inconsiderate enough to live for a few years after retirement may find difficulty in accepting your unqualified dictum that “New Zealanders never had it so good.” Accelerating inflation is stealing their savings and reducing their real income to the point where home-main-tenance costs cannot be met—their reward for a life of toil and thrift. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance cannot, or will not, recognise and cope effectively, with the jeopardy in which inflation is placing our whole economy and social structure. A continuatioh of present trends will leave many senior citizens with little but their self-respect. Unlike the politicians, they are not in a position to appoint a committee to determine what their income should be. —Yours, etc.. ANGRY OLD MAN. October 17, 1965.
