Week-End Weather The weather in Christchurch during the week-end was changeable. Saturday morning was warm and fine, but a wind change in the late afternoon from the east to the south-west brought showers and lower temperatures. The cold spell continued yesterday, rain and hail falling during the morning. The sky cleared in the afternoon, but the weather remained cold. On Saturday the temperature at Harewood at 9 a.m. was 55 degrees, rising to a maximum of 60 degrees at midday. Yesterday it was 46 degrees at 9 a.m. and the maximum was 49 degrees at 3 p.m. The temperature gauge on the Government Life building registered 49 degrees at 5.15 T>.m. yesterday. Fete Raises £3OOO Proceeds from the garden fete held at Calvary Hospital on Saturday in aid of the 40bed Mary Potter wing for the aged sick are expected at least to equal the £3OOO raised last year. A final figure will not be available for several days. Between 2500 and 3000 persons attended the fete. The money will be used entirely for the running and maintenance of the wing in the coming year. The Calvary sisters thank all those'who attended the fete and those who gave money and goods. Noon Weather Noon weather in the main centres yesterday was: Auckland, 56, cloudy, south-west 25; Wellington, 43, showers, south 30; Christchurch, 49, cloudy, south-west 25: Dunedin, 46, overcast, south-west 5.—(P.A.) ' Surveying Talks The 77th annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors will be opened in Auckland today by the Chancellor of the University, Sir Douglas Robb. The conference marks the centenary of the founding of the Auckland Provincial Surveyors’ Association which preceded the formation of the New Zealand institute in 1888. About 200 surveyors will attend the conference which will have the theme, “Industrial and Commercial Development.”— (P.A.)
