LOWER THAN ESTIMATE

Transport Bd. Loss With six months of the financial year gone, the working loss of the Christchurch Transport Board, at £65,740, is £5558 less than estimated. Mr E. J. Bradshaw, chairman of the finance committee, said at a meeting of the board yesterday that the financial report for the four weeks to September 11, was again satisfactory. There had been an increase in revenue of £5Ol, or 1 per cent, over the corresponding period last year, and what was more pleasing, it was greater than estimated. “On the other side of the picture, operating expenses have increased, because of wage increases now operative,’’ said Mr Bradshaw. “They have increased £2184 on the corresponding period last year, but nevertheless are less than anticipated." To date, Mr Bradshaw said, the working loss, including standing charges, showed a reduction of £5558 on the loss estimated. “.With six months gone, we are five and a half thousand pounds better of than we anticipated,” he said. “If things continue along these lines, we should come out at the end of the year quite satisfactorily.”
