FERTILISER INDUSTRY
Union Calls For Inquiry (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Sept. 20. The Northern Drivers’ Union wants the Government to institute a public inquiry into the finances of the fertiliser industry. The union’s move follows increases in the price of fertiliser by between 14s 6d and 17s a ton. The union’s secretary (Mr G. H. Andersen) said his union has protested strongly to the Government at the increases.
“The union has long appreciated that any setback to the primary industry of the country must eventually cause a deterioration in the whole economic position of New Zealand. There can be no logical opposition to a public inquiry into the industry and an examination of profit margins from the companies to absorb the reported increases in the cost of raw materials,” said Mr Andersen.
