TROTTING Tactile Wins; Robin Dundee Sets Record

. Tactile scored his first season when he beat Orbiter in the President’s Handicap, first leg of the double at Hutt Park last night.

Robin Dundee, starting from 18 yards, finished third and set a new track record for a mile and a half of 3min 7sec. Tactile’s winning time was only a little slower at 3min 7 2-ssec.

The sensation of the I race was the poor I showing of Jay Ar, the I second favourite, I which finished a poor II last after being tailed |j off most of the way. I Tactile’s half-brother, TacI tus, completed a £2O 12s 6d I double for £1 when he easily I won the second leg, the Otaki I Handicap. I Like Tactile, Tactus is I owned by Messrs A. J. and I D. P. Dynes and trained by I the latter. Both were driven I last night by R. M. Cameron. I Tactus had a great run all I the way behind the paceI maker, Rocky Star, and came I right away from that horse in I the straight. Arahina finI ished on for third, but was I well beaten. I Disband galloped off the mark in the President’s Han- | dicap but she settled down I quickly. All the others bell gan well. | Orbiter was first out and | after a furlong he led by two lengths from Peerswick and Gay Reel, Tactile, Disband | and Jay Ar, with Garcon d’Or ||and Robin Dundee next and I Lordship five lengths away. I Orbiter was sti'' in front II at the mile and at the halfll mile he led Gay Reel and | Peerswick, Disband, Tactile | (improving quickly), Garcon | d’Or and Robin Dundee | (badly placed on the inside). | There was a length to Lord- | ship and two to Jay Ar. || Tactile ranged up to Orbiter near the turn and into the straight there was little between these two, with Peerswick, Disband, Garcon d’Or and Robin Dundee handy. Tactile went to the front at the furlong and maintained his run to win comfortably from Orbiter, which stuck on well. Then came Robin Dundee a length and a quarter back. Peerswick was a close fourth, shading Garcon d’Or, | which was followed by Disband, Lordship, which nevei’ | looked a possibility, and the | disappointing Jay Ar.
