DOUBTS ON JACKAL
Eased After Injury “The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. There is doubt about the Freelight filly, Jackal, taking her place in the McLean Stakes field at Wingatui. She has had to be eased in her work because of a foot injury and although she has been paid up for in the Dunedin classic she will have to improve considerably to be able to start. She had finished second in the two two-year-old parades she had contested. Most impressive of the Wingatui candidates at Invercargill yesterday was the novice. Western Gale, which galloped with the open sprinter, Manners. Working on the course proper, which was firm but dead and with the poles 40ft out, the pair ran out the six furlongs in Imin 19 2-ssec, the last half in 53 3-ssec, a particularly good gallop. Town Crier was hard held in splinting half a mile with Segundo in 53 2-ssec. Town Crier was withdrawn from the first day at Wingatui and may not be produced on the second. He may reappear at the Winton meeting. Belibridge ran away from the novice, Royal Western, over five furlongs in Imin 7 2-ssec, the last half in 54sec
