Residents’ Fears
Allayed
The meeting had allayed fears and led to better understanding, the chairman (Mr W. A. Newton) told the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board yesterday when he reported on a recent meeting with the Hornby Residents’ Association. The association had claimed that the board’s amalgamation of the Banks Peninsula and Malvern areas had not been in the interests of consumers in the board’s urban area. Mr Newton said facts and , figures had been given by the • board, and it seemed that the association's criticism had arisen from misunderstandings, and incomplete facts. Mrs J. E. Woodham said she had been asked to express the association’s thanks for the full and frank way in which the questions had been answered. “Sometimes, ad hoc bodies are accused of Star Chamber methods, but our story stood the light of day,” said Mr L. T. Griffith. “There is no suggestion that we are not making every effort to look after the interests of our consumers."
