PARK CYCLE TRACK

Limited Use Discussed

The limited use made of the cycling track at Denton Park had been discussed with the Hornby Cycling Club, the reserves committee reported to the Paparua County Council last night. Club speakers told the committee that the club had broken away from the Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association and organised its own Saturday afternoon meetings, and in spite of all efforts to oromote cycling at the park, it had not been successful. The report said it was understood that lack of facilities at the park and counter-attrac-tionr had -esulted in the club being unable to continue. The committee had been told that if more seating and changing facilities were provided. use of the park could well become more general. The committee noted the need to encourage other organisations to use the park. The land was a gift and the nark as a whole had cost £15.000 bv loan to develop, said the County Clerk (Mr A. Kelly). Cr. C. W. A. Kyle said the committee would discuss the position with the cycling centre.

Cr. L. 3. Cutler said it was a pity the council could not be told the actual eost of the cycle track. The situation was not satisfactory. Cr. motion that a report be made on the park costs was defeated.

Referee.—Mr A. R. Taylor, of Canterbury, will referee the Springboks' Rugby match against Thames Valley-Bay of Plenty-Counties at Rotorua on September 14. He replaced Mr J. P. Murphy as referee during the third test at Christchurch.
