C.L.T.A. PRESIDENT MR A.C. FELTON
The success of “Tennis Week” last year in Canterbury has inspired the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to launch “Tennis Week” this year on a national basis and is a compliment to Canterbury’s efforts last year.
Our association made record growth last season and it is hoped that we will again increase our membership this year. Accordingly the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association is furthering “Tennis Week” with every hope of a humper increase. Not only are we looking for an increase in members but also In the standard of play and here is an opportunity for clubs and sub-associations to encourage new players by coaching schemes and encouraging former players to take up the game
again. All duh members should strive to improve their standard of tennis. The association is again providing a full range of club and provincial matches and the international tournament in February should be even more successful than last year’s tournament. lan Crookenden and Lew Gerrard have been successful in overseas matches and show that New Zealand players can play on equal terms with other first class international players. “Tennis week” depends on the support given by all clubs and sub-associa-tions and I have no doubt that this will be forthcoming, and I wish all players affiliated to the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association every success in the coming season.
