Obituary

MR H. E. TAYLOR Mr H. E. Taylor, a senior inspector of primary schools in Canterbury, has died at the age of 56 years. He was noted for his cheerfulness and assistance to young teachers. Mr Taylor joined the inspectorate when he came to Christchurch in 1956 after being headmaster of the Gordonton School, near Hamilton. After a period as a general staff inspector he was in charge of special education for three years, and was promoted to senior inspector this year. In that role he oversaw North Canterbury and West Coast schools, organised and conducted many teachers’ courses on language, and became particularly well known in rural areas. He is survived by his wife and four sons.

Mr H. L. Dolamore

■(N Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept. 2. A former manager, chairman of directors, and son of the founder of the New Zealand Paper Mills at Mataura, Mr Howard Lambert Dolamore, died at North Taieri yesterday. He was 83. Mr Dolamore, born and educated at Gore, spent much of his life there. He was associated with another family business there before his connexions with the New Zealand Paper Mills, and the “Mataura Ensign.” He was manager of the newspaper for some years. He also worked on the “Otago Daily Times” in Dunedin and on the “New Zealand Herald." He joined the paper mills in the early becoming general manager shortly afterwards. He occupied that position for some 26 years, retiring in 1950. In 1952, he was recalled to the board of directors. He was chairman of directors for 10 years before his retirement in 1963. Mr Dolamore is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
