Wheels Lock In Landing
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 27. Thirty-eight passengers sat calmly in a National Airways Corporation Friendship aircraft as it landed at Wellington airport today, unaware that the plane’s port wheels had locked during the landing approach. Strips of rubber were torn from the wheels as it touched down.
No-one was hurt. The captain brought the plane to a stop. Mechanics had the aircraft back in service in 20 minutes. An N.A.C. spokesman said the low-pressure tyres had “softened” the landing. Passengers would have felt nothing, he said.
Mr G. T. Wright has been appointed to the West Melton Domain Board. He replaces Mr A. W. Hinton, who has resigned.
