Strongroom Doors Two 12-ton strongroom doors for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, leave London aboard the Rangitane today. They are part of an order for five such doors and incorporate the latest equipment to make them secure from attack by drill, explosives or any other equipment known to be used by safebreakers.—(P.A. London, August 27.)
School Holidays Because it could not reach agreement, the Secondary School Boards’ Association in Christchuich yesterday rejected three remits for changes in school holidays. One sought to increase the school year to 390 half-days, another to fix it at 380, and a third proposed extending the summer holidays into February and delaying the May holidays until June to include “sharemilkers’ changeover” and the Queen’s Birthday. Most delegates favoured more school time before the major national examinations. Spotlight Found The portable spotlight which was missing after being provided by the Royal New Zealand Air Force station, Wigram, to the police for use at the Paparua Prison riot on July 25, has been found. When prison officers saw the photograph of the spotlight in “The Press” on Thursday, it was realised that the lamp had been put away in a shed the day after the riot because it was thought to be prison property. The lamp was handed in to the Central Police Station at noon on Thursday and has been returned to the Wigram station.
