AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES
Return Of Confidence I (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 20. - An improved demand for wool products and a return of I confidence in wool values was indicated in the new Australian selling season, beginning in Melbourne and Brisbane next week, the spokesman for a leading woolbroker said today in a pre-season statement. The spokesman, for Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd., said that Australian and South African wool clips would be lighter in the new season. Most consumer countries were only carrying light stocks and supply of wool now was more equitably balanced in relation to demand. The total offering at the Melbourne and Brisbane sales would be more than 125,000 bales. With an improved economic climate in their country, Japanese buyers were expected to dominate the opening sales, while the United States, which more than doubled its wool purchases in Australia last season, was again expected to be a keen buyer.
