BID FOR FREEDOM
Ride Under Train
(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Aug. 15. A Jugoslav labourer had ridden for 680 miles underneath a train coach in a bid to reach freedom in Italy, the “Daily Mirror” reported. For most of the way he travelled face down, his head often just a few inches from the track. When he was found outside Milan, still under the coach, he was suffering from a broken foot and shock. The man, Vehapi Qamil, aged 32, was completely caked in mud and was weak through lack of food and sleep. He is now recovering in a Milan hospital and has asked for political asylum.
