SUCCESSFUL YEAR

Marlborough Club Profit

The Marlborough Trotting Club’s annual meeting last February was one of the most successful in the club’s history and several records were set> says the president (Mr W. J. Murray) in his annual report. This, and the club’s balance sheet for the year, will be presented to members next Thursday. The on-course turn-over for the two days, £61,427, was the highest on record and the first day’s figure, £35,177, had never been bettered for one day’s racing at Waterlea. The on and off-course total for the meeting was also an alltime high for the club. The figure this year was £133,498. The previous best was £131,094 in 1964.

For the first time since 1959 the club’s race meeting account showed an excess of income over expenditure. The amount was less than £5, but in 1964 there had been a loss of £289 and the previous year the loss had been £458.

On the year’s operations, the club made a profit of £259, compared with a loss of £407 in 1964. The club’s main sources of income were totalisator revenue of £4151 and £1443 received for nominations, acceptances and stabling fees.

Stakes, at £4850, and wages, at £620, were the major items of expenditure. Taxation amounted to £12,136.
