Gt. Barrier Training
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 16. Because Great Barrier Island provided ideal training ground for infantrymen going to Malaysia, 127 from the Bumham depot arrived at Papakura after a stay in Waiouru. They went to the island by naval launches today and at the end of their exercise will return in the frigate Otago to Auckland and then by Hercules aircraft to Christchurch. Major N. C. Schofield, who is in command of the company, said the island provided terrain and conditions similar to those in Malaysia and was away from distractions.
Pony Club Show.—The Christchurch Pony Club show will now be held on September 5 at Yaldhurst, starting at 9 a.m., instead <rf September 4. The change has been necessary because of the traffic expected in Christchurch on September 4 for the Rugby test match.
