Rare Book

A rare New Zealand publication is on display at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington after its purchase in Melbourne for £766, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said yesterday. The publication is a particularly fine copy of George Angas’s “New Zealanders Illustrated” in the original 10 loose parts, containing 60 coloured plates. Mr Seath said that in this state the book was very rare and as far as was known Only one set of the first edition in parts had been offered for sale in New Zealand in recent years. George French Angas, who was born in 1822 and died in 1886, came to New Zealand in 1844 and stayed about 18 months.—(P_A.).
