HEAVY LOSS EXPECTED

Sussex Grain Crop (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, August 10. Early hopes of a record yield from this year’s grain harvest have faded in the early harvesting area in Sussex, says the “Daily Telegraph.” But sunshine is bringing hope that losses might not be as heavy as thought after a heavy downpour last week, which did further damage to already battered crops. The harvest is from 10 to 14 days later than last year and only about 5 per cent has so far been completed, compared with 25 per cent last August. Farmers are hoping for more sunshine, which is badly needed to ripen grain. Yields are expected to be down by 20 to 25 per cent compared with 'what was promised in June.
