Matter For Individuals

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 11. Within reason liquor should be available to those adults who want it, the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) has told the Auckland Presbytery in a letter. He was replying to a protest from the Presbytery over proposals to extend liquor facilities to sports clubs. “The Government does not share the implicit view of the Presbytery that any further increase in liquor facilities is

necessarily undesirable,” he said. Representations from golf and bowling clubs had been “strong and persistent.”. “These requests should be considered and a decision made as soon as possible. “The Government regards the use or non-use of liquor as a matter for the individual conscience rather than the law. “It should not be made so difficult to obtain that there is in effect an approximation to a state of prohibition.”
