Even Found Some Suits For The Men
Once again the emergency cupboards at the Red Cross Centre have proved their worth, for this week two Christchurch families who lost all their possessions when their home was burnt last Sunday, have been supplied with clothing and household linen.
Mr and Mrs P. I. Murrell, of 139 Mairehau road, Burwood, and their two daughters, aged nine and four, and Mr and Mrs G. R. Reeves who also occupied the house with their two-year-old son and 11-month-old baby, were left with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. The centre was able to give them an almost complete range of clothing, even to footwear. Blankets, sheets, and towels were supplied im-
mediately after the fire, and some little things for the youngsters—toys and books—were also slipped in from a special shelf which Junior Red Cross members keep supplied. “Fortunately our cupboards were well stocked," Mrs R. I. Brake, president of the North Canterbury Centre, said yesterday. “We were even able to supply the two men with suits. Everything fitted well, and it was terribly gratifying to be able to go to the cupboards and find just what was needed.”
A second supply of blankets and household linen has just been sent to the families. “When I heard from them that they had been granted State houses I had a parcel done up for them immediately,” said Mrs Brake.
