Geologist From Israel An Israeli geologist. Dr. Ralph Freund, is expected to arrive in Christchurch at the end of next month to spend a year attached to the Geological Survey. Dr. Freund is a lecturer in the geology department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has been invited to lecture on the Dead Sea Rift at an “upper mantle” symposium in Ottawa on September 2 and 3, and plans to come to New Zealand afterI wards.

Dr. Freund intends to study several problems of the New Zealand alpine fault. He wants to get a general view of the alpine fault system first, then make a detailed study and map of some restricted areas along the fault.
