Rugby Union Declines The Canterbury Rugby Union management committee last evening declined a request from the Canterbury Maori Rugby committee for G. J. Waterreus, R. Wainohu and R. Wards to be released from the Canterbury A and B teams on August 28 to play at Wellington. The Canterbury Maori team will play in a curtain-raiser for the Springbok v. New Zealand Maori game on that day. “We cannot give permission,” said Mr J. Storey: “Canterbury A and B have always had first and second preference.” A request from the MidCanterbury Rugby Union that an under 11 team play a Canterbury under sst 71b side was declined. “We have arranged our fixtures for all grades and should not tamper with them so late in the season," said Mr C.
