PINES BEACH BOXING

The second biennial boxing tournament at Pines Beach will be held on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Pines Beach Hall. The first of these tournaments was held two years ago and the organiser, Mr T. L. Blumsky, hopes to make them a regular feature o commemorate boxing in New Zealand which started 103 years ago about a mile from Pines Beach, on the mouth of the Waimakariri river. Tuesday night’s tournament will feature about eight amateur bouts and there is a possibility of a paper-weight bout between two youthful boxers. The leading attraction will probably be a middle-weight contest between Jimmy Gordon and Kevin Mathews.
