Oxlee Charged By Wild Boar
(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, August 3. The Springbok fly-half, K. Oxlee, who had to deal with charging All Black forwards on Saturday, had to contend with something even more hair-raising today—a 2001 b wild boar that turned on him during a hunting party. Oxlee and the two other Natal players in the touring party, D. C. Walton and T. P. Bedford, were hunting wild pigs with a local farmer, when Walton winged an out-size boar. The boar turned and charged, picking up one of the dogs with the party, on its tusks, on the way. The farmer with the
group grabbed the rifle off Walton and stopped the boar in its tracks. Eight of the players, none of whom is playing tomorrow, took part in hunting expeditions today, in three groups. The full-back, L. G. Wilson, bagged a deer, while C. G. P. van Zyl, F. T. Roux and P. H. Botha shot five mountain goats, all with long range shots. The various parties returned from their hunting in a decidedly weary physical condition. “This is the hardest training session we’ve had on the tour," said Wilson. “The farmer bounded on ahead and we staggered behind.”
