ATHLETIC FUND

Tribute To Clarke

(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright'

SYDNEY, August 3. A £20,000 Ron Clarke Foundation Fund is to be launched by the Australian Amateur Athletic Union—with none of the money going to Clarke. The A.A.U. has decided to raise the money as a tribute to Clarke and use income from it to enable promising young athletes to gain international experience.

Clarke has endorsed the scheme and has offered to make appearances in every state to assist in raising funds.

The A.A.U. secretary, Mr Arthur Hodsdon, said there would be about £1250 to use on sending athletes overseas each year. “The foundation will be a perpetual reminder of Clarke’s world record-breaking this year and will fill a want which Clarke has worried about considerably,” he said.
