Mr J. L. Robson, Secretary of Justice, left yesterday for Stockholm to attend the United Nations’ congress on the prevention of crime and treatment of offenders.— (P.A.). Mr O. C. Mitchell, chairman of the Waimairi County Council, has been appointed the council’s second representative on the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority. Mr A. E. Wagner has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr J. I. Colligan. Mr G. H. Wicks, of Christchurch passed advanced cost accounting in recent examinations held by the New Zealand Institute of Cost Accountants.

The Christchurch Regional Planning Authority yesterday expressed sympathy with, the relatives of Mr J. I. Colligan, who was the Waimairi County Council’s representative on the authority for nine years. “He played a very full part in the work of the authority,” said the chairman (Mr E. J. Bradshaw).

Cr. W. E. Cassidy has been nominated by the Waimairi County Council to fill the vacancy on the Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board caused by the death of Mr J. I. Colligan. The seat represents Riccarton borough. Waimairi and Heathcote counties, and parts of Paparua, Halswell and Eyre counties.
