SECOND IN FINAL

Christchurch Trio

(N.Z. Presi- Association,' WELLINGTON, August 2. A Wellington group, the Bear Trio (Mr Golding, violin; Mr Jackson, cello; and C. Beckett, piano) won the national final of the Chamber Music Federation’s school chamber music competition in Wellington on Sunday. Second was the Christchurch Boys’ High Schoo! trio (J. Chisholm, violin; B- Shillito, viola; and A. Chisholm, cello). In third place was the New Plymouth High School trio (Miss J. Forsyth, violin; Miss H. Bousfield, violin; and W. Blanchett, piano).

The 10 combinations heard yesterday were the district finalists from 77 competing groups, selected by Mr Owen Jensen in association with the local district music advisers of the Department of Education.

The Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) presented the prizes.
