STATEMENT BY M.P.
Paparua View
The attitude adopted by Mr H. J. Walker, M.P., over his proposed meeting with local bodies did him no credit, said the chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr R. J. Roberts) at its meeting on Monday evening. “After his uninformed and unjustifiable attack made on the council’s adjoining Christchurch city during a recent Parliamentary debate, Mr Walker has imposed such conditions before he will agree to meet representatives of the council’s that it must be assumed he wishes to avoid such a meeting, and that this is his way of declining the invitation,” said Mr Roberts. “His attitude merely supports the views of other councils that his outburst was nothing but political talk, made without a full knowledge and appreciation of the position.” On the recommendation of Mr Roberts, the council agreed with the belief of other councils that to meet Mr Walker now would be pointless.
Horses By Air.—Twenty racehorses will be flown to Christchurch by the National Airways Corporation for the Grand National meeting at Riccarton. One plane load arrived from Hamilton last Thursday, and two more are due tomorrow from Palmerston North. The number is the largest the airline has brought to Christchurch for a race meeting.
