SHORTAGE OF PLANNERS
No Applicants Offering
The shortage of qualified town planners has caused great concern, said Mr E. J. Bradshaw, the chairman, yesterday when the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority received the resignation of Mr D. J. Edmondson, its regional town planning officer. Mr Edmondson, who has been with the authority for almost 10 years, is going into a partnership as a town planning consultant in Wellington. His work for the authority was praised by Mr Bradshaw and several members, and the deputy-chairman (Mr G. D. Griffiths) said Mr Edmondson had volunteered to return to Christchurch when Professor C. Buchanan, the British planning expert, visited the city to report on the master transport plan. There had not been one reply to advertisements in New Zealand and overseas, Mr Bradshaw said. There were fewer than “two dozen” planners available to local government in the whole of New Zealand.
