AMBULANCE ORDERED
Another May Be Needed
The Christchurch subtentre of the St. John Ambulance Association had erdered another vehicle, Which would bring the ambulance fleet to eight, said the sub-eentre’s secretarytreasurer (Mr G. A. Brown). The sub-centre had also recently hired another driver, and it might become necessary buy yet another vehicle if the 24-hour-a-day service was to be maintained efficiently. In July 2454 patients were carried, the total mileage being 13,237, compared with 2090 patients (11,154 miles) in June, and 1951 patients (12,345 miles) in July, 1964. The higher demand brought with it higher costs, and the controlling committee would be far happier if the increased work had also brought with it an increased income—especially donations from users of the service. Unhappily that had not been so, Mr Brown said. It was appreciated that Christchurch people were asked to contribute to a number of requests for money, but the association still , received donations from only 38 per cent of those who used the service.
Motor accident cases also reached a new peak at 77 calls last month involving 90 cases, compared with 67 calls and 78 cases in June, and 64 calls and 83 cases in July, 1964.
There were 62 calls to miscellaneous accident cases, he Mid.
