Brenner Route Closed (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) ROME, July 27. Landslides during a violent thunderstorm yesterday buried the important Brenner rail and highway links between Italy and northern Europe under masses of mud and earth. At Fortezza, 25 miles south of the Brenner pass border between Austria and Italy, a landslide buried goods waggons, some cattle, two locomotives, and the 16 railway lines. Mud swept in the customs house at the Fortezza station, where many people were waiting for trains, but no-one was injured. Equals Record.— The 17-year-old American swimmer. J. Nelson. on Monday, equalled the world record of 2min l.lsec for the 220 yards freestyle, held by Australia's R. Windle.
