GAME FISH AWARDS

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 27. The New Zealand Big Game Fishing Council has made three awards for outstanding catches in the last season. Mr R. M. A. Pearson, of Auckland, was awarded the Lord Norrie Cup for the heaviest striped marlin catch of the season—4sB pounder on March 25 in the Bay of Islands. The fishermen of the year badge went to Mr M. F. Lornie, of Auckland, who caught the heaviest game fish of any species. On March 3, off Mayor Island, he landed a 8971 b black marlin. The most meritorious catch of the year award went to Mr W. Pocklington, of Dargaville. The award, the Old Man and the Sea Cup, was given to him for landing, after four and a half hours on April 15, a 3101 b striped marlin—a fish that was 10 times the weight of his line. Mr Pocklington, aged 56, did not sit down once during his efforts.
