HELP FOR INDIA AND KOREA
Mission To Send Clothing Four bales of clothing, two for India, and two for Korea, containing more than 2000 garments collected by the Christchurch branch of the Mission to Lepers, are now ready to be sent overseas. The bales for India contain mostly knitted garments, scarves, errdigans and jerseys, which will go to a storage shed in Purulia, India, to be distributed as needed. The Korean bales contain 60 quilts as well as warm clothing. The area secretary (Miss M. G. Titheridge) said that the dem'nd for warm clothing and bedding could never be met, as the need was so great. The bales were packed with the assistance of C.0.R.5.0. and will be sent under its name. C.0.R.5.0. has exemption from customs duty to India, but the Mission to Lepers does not. One home for lepers in India found it could not accept the parcels sent by the mission, as the customs duty equalled a week’s food ration. “We are particularly grateful to ttie Christchurch organisers of C.0.R.5.0. for their support,” said Miss Titheridee.
