Questionnaire For Industry Preliminary discussions on the survey ordered by the Government on the proposal for differential freight rates on goods carried from the South Island to the North Island would be held in Christchurch soon, said the secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr R. T. Alston). Senior officers of the Department of Industries and Commerce, he said, Would soon visit Christchurch for preliminary discussions with manufacturers. The association recently asked the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) for differential rates. The department, said Mr Alston, had informed the association that a questionnaire had been prepared to obtain the information the Government would need to tnake a decision on the proposal. The questionnaire would be circulated to South Island manufacturers, and the assistant departmental economist (Mr W, D. Rose) and senior advisory officer of the economics branch (Mr M. S. Roberts) would visit Christchurch to discuss the questionnaire with interested manufacturers. The association’s president (Mr R. G.
