Fourth From Same Club

When L. J. Slabber, the No. 8 forward, joined the Springboks in Christchurch yesterday he brought the representation from the Collegians club in Bloemfontein to four.

The other members of the Springbok team from the Orange Free State club are the vice-captain, C. M. Smith and the forwards, C. G. P. van Zayl and C. G. P. Goosen. “We were four points ahead in the Bloemfontein competition before the Springboks were chosen,” said Smith. “Now we are last.” Slabber was chosen to replace the injured winger, C. J. C. Cronje, who returned to South Africa last Sunday. Slabber said that he had had plenty of football in South Africa playing club games, two matches for Orange Free State and in one

of the Junior Springbok fixtures against Argentina. “I didn’t believe it at first when I was told that 1 had ; been chosen as Cronje’s replacement,’ ’said Slabber. The Orange Free State player would not comment on

South African reaction to the Springbok team. “It would only be my personal opinion and that would not be fair,” he said. Slabber is 28 years of age. weighs 13st 131 b and stands 6ft lin. He is a bank clerk
