City Recalls Madrussen

The 18-year-old Canterbury left wing, F. Madrussen. who was dropped for last week’s local Chatham Cup soccer final, has been recalled to the Christchurch City team to play the Timaru qualifier, Northern Hearts, in the South Island inter-zone semi-final at English Park tomorrow. Madrussen loot his place to A- Taylor in the game against Western, but has been given another chance to re-estab-lish himself in the first team. His potential is very high but in recent games Madrussen has been slowing down the forward line. It is the only change made by City from the side that beat Western, 2-0. Northern Hearts will be making their first appearance

at this stage of the Chatham Cup competition, and will be playing their first game in Christchurch. They qualified for the inter-zone semi-final by beating Timaru Thistle, 4-3, after extra time in the final of the South Canterbury competition last week. Its oldest and most experienced player is the right winger, J. McFarlane, who has played many .imes for South Canterbury. Other provincial representatives are I. Wiseman, an agile and capable goal-keeper, M. Brown, the left winger and J. Chambers (inside-right). The centre-forward, R. Buchanan, got among the goals when Hearts overwhelmed Oamaru, 10-0, a fortnight ago, scoring five times. City Will start firm favourites to win, and go through to play Nelson Rangers in

i the zone final, the last step J before the South Island final. ) This week-end’s matches 1 should also decide which 1 club will be relegated to the , second division next season. ; The decision rests between ■ High School Old Boys and New Brighton, each with six • points. i The Old Boys have two > games, meeting Shamrock in • the early match at English • Park tomorrow and City at . Rangers Park on Sunday. • while Brighton plays its last , game against Nomads at Mal- ■ vern Park tomorrow. A win in either of their . two games will keep Old : Boys in the first division, for • they have a vastly superior i goal average. But if they lose ' both or only manage to take one point and Brighton beat t Nomads, Brighton will escape i relegataion.
