Longer Hours
At Yards
The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association and the Railways Department are cooperating in an attempt to reduce delays in delivery of cargo between Lyttelton and Christchurch in the next few weeks.
Am increase in shipping had caused inward cargo to accumulate at the Christchurch railway yards, said the district traffic manager of railways (Mr M. R. Leineweber).' There were 680 waggons loaded with inward cargo at the yards on Tuesday compared with 90 on July
Hours for deliveries from E shed and the Waltham yard -would be extended, he said. Till further notice E shed would be open for deliveries from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Waltham yard would be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays till further notice.
The association’s secretary (Mr R. T. Alston) asked importers and manufacturers to co-operate by using, as much as possible, these extended hours to obtain their goods.
Anti - Begging Move.—The Indian Government is considering a law to eradicate begging. The proposed law will supplement existing state legislation which controls begging throughout India.—New Delhi.
