Badminton Title Still Wide Open

Avonslde, Christchurch I, and Knox I were the winning teams in the ninth round of matches in the Canterbury badminton A grade inter-club series.

This round brought together the leading teams, but the competition is still wide open, three teams having equal points, one behind Christchurch

The meeting of the two leading teams, Christchurch I and Railway I, resulted in a close win to Christchurch on sets, the teams being level, four matches each.

The biggest upset of the night was the defeat of A. G. Duckmanton (Railway I) by D. B. Reid, who has been out of touch of late, but showed better form in this match.

There were few good rallies, Duckmanton hitting the shuttle constantly out of court. Reid's task was made much easier in that his opponent could not find a consistent length, the shuttle going very fast in the humid conditions. Reid's usually Ineffective smashes scored many winners. Miss N. Baty (Christchurch 1) scored a well-deserved win over Mrs M. Miller in three sets.
