W. German Eight Wins (N.Z P.A -Reuter—Copyright) HENLEY. July 4. A West German rowing eight. Ratzeburger, on Saturday won the premier event of the Henley Royal rowing regatta, the Grand Challenge Cup for eights. Ratzeburger defeated the United States crew. Vesper. It was an unforgettable race between two of the fastest crews in history. The Germans rowed majestically to a half-a-length win. They cut two seconds off Vesper’s record for the one mile 570 yards course, by returning 6mln 16sec. Overseas oarsmen gained numerous successes at the fourday regatta, at which course records were set in 10 events Results of finals;—
Silver Goblets.—P. Corny and G. Bergau (East Germany) beat H. Boelen and J. Enters (Holland), 2jl„ 7:42. Double Sculls.—M. Studach and M. Buergen (Switzerland) beat M. Haake and J. Bruckhandler (East Germany), 1 2-31., 7:1 (record).
Grand Challenge Cup (eights). —Ratzeburger (West Germany) beat Vesper (Pittsburgh), 6:16 (record).
Prince Phillip Cup.—Leander beat Tideway Scullers School. Ji. 7:3 (record). Diamond Sculls.—D. Spero (U.S.A.) beat H. Wardell-Yer-burgh (Britain), JI.. 7:42 (record).
Stewards’ Cup.—Quintin (Bri tain) beat Nautilus (Britain) easily, 6:55 (record).
Thames Cup (eights).—lsis (Britain) beat Nottingham Britannia (Britain), il. 6:37.
Wyfoid Cup (four-oared).— Derby (Britain) beat Christiana Roklub (Norway). 2JI. 7:6 (record).
Princess Elizabeth Cup (for schoolboy eights).—Tabor Academy (U.S.A.) beat Phillips Academy (U.S.A.), canvas. 6:44.
