Canterbury Retains Table Tennis Cup
Canterbury retained the Relne Cup when the quadrangular table tennis tournament between Canterbury, Otago, Southland and South Canterbury ended in Christchurch yesterday.
The encounter between Otago's B. A. Foster and Canterbury’s J Armstrong was once again the highlight of the contest, Foster emerging the victor after three games.
N. B. Badford (Canterbury) gave a good display throughout the tournament to win all bu( one of his six singles.
In the women’s section, Mrs T. May, Mrs M. J. Shadbolt and Mrs P M. Purdon remained undefeated. Miss Y. Fogarty, a 13-year-old from Otago, gave a good display, beating Canterbury’s Miss J. Rich and narrowly losing to Mrs M. J. Brown (South Canterbury), 23-25, in the final game of a spectacular match. Points: Canterbury 46, Otago 37, South Canterbury 22, and Southland 3. CANTERBURY V.
