GEOTHERMAL POWER
Mexicans To Go To Wairakei (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 2. New Zealand's geothermal power project at Wairakei has attracted the attention of Mexico. Three Mexican technicians, from the Federal Electricity Commission, will visit New Zealand this month to study conversion of natural steam into electrical energy. They will arrive in Wellington from Sydney on Monday night, and will have talks with Ministry of Works geothermal authorities before travelling to Wairakei. Mexican geologists recently found a powerful source of steam and natural vapour beneath the valley of Mexacali in Southern California. Already, a pilot plant with an output of 2000 kilowatts is planned, and a long-term project envisages an output as high as 100,000 kilowatts, enough to supply all the electricity needed by the Mexacali region.
